Can yellowed headlights actually be restored? +
Yes. The yellowing and hazing on headlight lenses is oxidation — a surface-level breakdown of the plastic coating caused by UV exposure. Wet sanding removes the oxidized layer, and machine polishing restores the lens to optical clarity. The result is a headlight that looks new and throws light correctly again. In most cases, restoration is more effective and far less expensive than replacement.
How long does headlight restoration last? +
With a professional UV sealant applied at the end of the process, results typically last two to three years. The UV sealant is what protects the freshly polished lens from re-oxidizing. Does the UV sealant actually prevent re-hazing? +
Yes — a properly applied UV sealant is the step that separates a lasting restoration from a temporary fix. Polished plastic exposed to sunlight without protection re-oxidizes quickly. The sealant bonds to the lens surface and blocks the UV exposure that causes degradation. It is not an optional add-on at Sandhills Shine — it is included in every headlight restoration as a standard final step.
